The Idea of Calling Beer Champagne Leaves French Producers Frothing

No one, not even the giant U.S. beer company, can take Champagne's name in vain.

Miller High Life has used the slogan "Champagne of Beers" for years.

The Belgian customs crushed more than 2,000 cans of Miller High Life advertised as such at the request of a trade group representing the interests of houses and growers of northeastern French sparkling wine.

In a request to destroy 2,352 cans, the Champagne Committee claimed the American brewery's century-old motto violated Champagne's protected origin designation.
